Revamped Microsoft Word export

We recently updated our Microsoft Word (DOCX) export. Please see below how it works.

1. The central topic becomes the title of the exported document and will appear at the top with a bigger font size. Your main topics and subtopics will be listed in a headings hierarchy up until the 4th level. After the 4th level, all the subtopics will be listed as normal text with indentation.
Notes are exported exactly as they are in the mind map (keeping their stylings such as bulleting, numbering, font size, and color).

2. Comments will appear on the right side of the document, in a column, each comment connected to its topic with a dotted line. The comments will also display the initials of the person who added it and the date it was added.

Task Mind Maps will have their task specifications (start date/end date, priority, duration and assignee) exported as a table right under the task’s title:

3. The new export will enable you to create a table of contents. This is specificalhere onl if you are writing an essay, article or book, and you want you and/or your readers to navigate easily through your work. You can read more here on how to create such a table of contents.

Please give this new functionality a try and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Spell checker now working on the Desktop

Let’s start Monday with some good news! Our Desktop version now has a spell checking functionality available in the following languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Dutch and Portuguese.
The spell checker becomes active when you are editing the topic, and all you need to do is right click on the word to see the spelling suggestions:

By going to the License Info icon (at the bottom of the left toolbar in your Dashboard), then to Options, you can set a custom language for the spell checking functionality, different from the language of the application:

Please give this new feature a try and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Redesigned Share Panel

We’re excited to announce that our new and refreshed Share panel is now online.
Our goal with this newly designed sharing functionality was to offer the easiest experience you can get when it comes to sharing your work with others. We hope you’ll find the new design to be uncluttered and more user-friendly.

So, what’s new? The first change you’ll notice when you open the Share panel is that we included the password protection right there, in the top left side. Simply click on Password, then set a password for your map.

By clicking on More you will get the link to Embed the map, use it as RSS or HTML, etc.

Link sharing was simplified too, you have all the options in one page: you can make your mind map public and viewable for everyone on the internet, viewable only for those who have the link, or guest editable.

You can still find the standard option to invite someone to edit your mind map, you just need to type in the email address and click on ‘Send’. The person will receive an email invitation to edit your mind map. If he doesn’t have a Mindomo account, he/she will be redirected to our Sign up page.

We’d love if after you try it, you tell us what you think.

New sharing functionalities in Mindomo Desktop

Mind mapping can make a big difference when it comes to teamwork and collaboration. Why? Because mind maps are a visual and easy way to share information and build consensus for ideas and projects.

So far, you were only able to share your mind maps in Mindomo if you were registered online. With our latest improvements, you are now able to share your local maps too.

Share your maps with online users

Use the improved ‘Sync & Save Online’ feature to save your local maps and all their attached files in the cloud. This way you can make them public or keep them private and share them only with your collaborators. Once a map is synced with the cloud, use the ‘Sync & Save Online’ to see offline all recent changes that were made online.

During the syncing process, your local files will be uploaded to the Mindomo server, while the files attached online will be downloaded and saved locally. Of course, you can choose to sync maps without uploading the files to the server or downloading them locally.

‘Pack Map’ to share maps with other Mindomo Desktop users

The brand new ‘Pack Map’ functionality (1) will compress your mind map and all its attached files into a single .pmom file (2) saved locally (3).

Share the *.pmom file with your collaborators so that they can open your map along with all its attached files from their own computers (4).

When they will open the ‘Pack Map’ (.pmom) file, they will decompress the contained mind map and all its attached files, saving them to a new empty folder of their choice (6).

If you are using the Desktop app, do give these new features a try, we’re looking forward to your feedback and questions in the comments below.

Notes Section Overhaul and many more

What other best way to prove that your requests matter than making them happen?

Improved notes
A large amount of your requests was about improving our Notes feature in normal mind maps, task mind maps and task outlines. Notes are important because they let you add larger bodies of information without losing the map’s overview feel. So, are you wondering how we made Notes better? We added a few more editing formats like insert code block and adding quotes.

Not that impressed yet? There’s more on our list:

Inserting mathematical formulas

Are you a Maths teacher or students that wants to insert complex mathematical formulas in Mindomo but don’t know how? All you need to do is open a Note or start a new Comment, go to ‘Insert Formula’, paste any of the LaTeX codes (currently, this is the only syntax available ) and click on ‘Save’. We will transcribe the codes into mathematical formulas.

Direct links and videos
Gather all resources in the same place and connect information to its source simply by selecting a text and inserting a direct link. How will this help you? It saves your precious time. Same thing works for inserting videos.
Also, adding content from anywhere on the internet is now straightforward: simply copy and paste the information in Mindomo and all related pictures and videos will be copied too.
Hopefully, these additions will help you keep your maps compact, with all the necessary information at hand.

Multiple selection in Outlines and Task outlines
Still focusing on practical and time saving solutions, we improved our Outlines and Task outlines by adding a very popular feature: multiple selection. You can now copy or delete content from your outlines, more rows at a time.

Multilingual Desktop Application
Thanks to all of you who are making our community grow from one year to another, we took the time to translate our Desktop application in more languages. From now on, you can use Mindomo’s offline version in English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Русский, 日本語 ,中文 ,Norsk ,Dansk,Svenska ,Suomi ,Nederlands ,Português, Magyar, Euskara.

We’re looking forward to your feedback and questions in the comments below.
